Information sent on behalf of Surrey Police

The Runnymede Safer Neighbourhood Team are aware that as we come out of lockdown, people's homes are more likely to be left empty while they're out at work, the pub, shops, hairdressers etc. Large houses can present an especially tempting target for burglars.

We have been working in partnership with the Wentworth Estate management team, Cannons Security and Safer Runnymede to target suspicious activity in order to prevent and deter burglaries. This has included both high visibility and unmarked patrols, monitoring ANPR cameras (at every entrance to the Wentworth Estate and further afield) and stopping vehicles.

We have also secured additional camera coverage from Safer Runnymede on Christchurch Road. As a result, this year there has been a 66% reduction in residential burglaries in Virginia Water, but we are not complacent as we are emerging from lockdown and this may be an opportunity for burglars to go back to 'work' as well.

You can report suspicious activity on 999 if you believe that a crime is taking place. Alternatively you can use 101, our website or social media accounts to report non-emergencies.

If you're going back to work, or planning on spending more time out of the house, we recommend testing any alarm or CCTV system to ensure it is still in good working order, and ensuring that you shut and lock all your doors, windows and gates.

We also have a Designing Out Crime Officer who can attend your home and offer free security advice.
