Alert message sent 25/01/2018 09:55:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch

I have sent this Neighbourhood Watch bulletin to those registered for ITK in Tattenham, Nork and Banstead concerning a serious crime at Tattenham Corner on Sunday Jan 21 at 7am when robbers attacked staff at the Co-op dragging one by the neck into the office to force her to release access to cash.  I obtained the details from Facebook reports.

Two men wearing dark clothing and with their faces covered entered the store at 7am on Sunday (January 21) and threatened staff before leaving with the money.  Ian Pattison, deputy manager at the store, said: "Two guys waited for the store to be empty [of customers] and they came in, grabbed the cashier around the neck and dragged her into the office. She and the other duty manager are obviously very shaken. They just gave into the demands to avoid any further violence."

The first suspect is described as a black male, between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall, of medium build and wearing a black jacket with the hood up and a blue beanie hat underneath. He also had bright blue trousers, black shoes, black gloves and a black scarf covering his face and was carrying a distinctive black leather holdall with a multi coloured sign on it.  His accomplice is described as a black male, between 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, of a heavy build and wearing grey tracksuit bottoms, a black jacket, black shoes and black gloves.

Detective Sergeant Kerry Akehurst from East Surrey's Criminal Investigation Department at Surrey Police, said: "A considerable amount of money was stolen and staff working in the store were left visibly shaken by this traumatic experience. We are determined to trace those responsible and bring them to justice and enquiries remain ongoing. If you witnessed the incident or any suspicious activity in or around the area at the time please call us as soon as possible."  Surrey Police is urging anybody with any information to call 101 quoting, PR/45180007700 or report online at https://www.surrey.police.uk/c... .

Alternatively, if you want to report anonymously you can do so via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
